Practical course on parasitism in European sea bass and sea bream

Parasitism is one of the major threats to cages and pond aquaculture. High mortality, poor growth, impaired animal welfare and reduced market value of parasitized fish can be considered as the main drawbacks caused by the presence of such organisms on fish farms.

ParaFishControl is a five years (2015-2020) research program which objective is to study parasites of aquaculture fish species farmed in the European Union. The full name of the program is “Advanced Tools and Research Strategies for Parasite Control in European farmed fish”. It gathers 29 partners from 13 European countries.

As a part of this program, a training course entitled “Diagnosis of parasitic diseases of European sea bass and gilthead sea bream” is organized. It will take place in the University of Udine (Italy) on September 13th and 14th. Here is te course program:

Halieutica is proud to be one of the 20 selected participants of this course. Our participation will enable us to learn more about the actual state of parasitism in the Mediterranean and the available tools to manage those pathogens. It will also constitutes a great opportunity to meet and discuss with marine fish farmers and feed millers concerned about this issue.
